Of course this story is getting lots of coverage. But what sadly got no coverage was the recent unjust layoff of all employees of THE CLEVELAND CITIZEN, a 150 year old labor newspaper. The paper is owned by the Cleveland Building and Construction Trades, which represents the building trades unions. Subscribers of the paper are trade union members. Employees of the paper were denied union membership, yet the paper had to be printed by union printers and advertising was carefully scrutinized to be sure they were using union labor if available. The employees were underpaid, getting much much less than union wages (a little above minimum wage), no health care, regular raises or other union benefits. They were let go after 10-15 years employment through no fault of their own, all because a company with union ties took over their jobs. They were deemed ineligible for unemployment and did not receive any severance pay. How's that for union hypocrisy? SHAME on the Building Trades and the unions who turned their heads.
WalMart (known for their anti-union stance and low wages) treats their employees better!
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1977898960230051213.post-74550591153469392852013-08-01T12:43:32.968-04:002013-08-01T12:43:32.968-04:00As major cities like Cleveland became one party to...As major cities like Cleveland became one party towns the press became cheerleaders instead of skeptical adversaries. Of the major corruption stories that brought down Democratic leaders in Cuyahoga County not one of them were broken by or caused by PD reporters. How many times was Gerald McFaul endorsed by the Plain Dealer?

They pissed away their responsibilities and now lament that there's no future for "journalism." I guess they never studied "irony" in all those writing classes in college.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1977898960230051213.post-1359040190567517192013-08-01T00:03:36.887-04:002013-08-01T00:03:36.887-04:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Ambassador Renatehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17455376481651823350noreply@blogger.com
